Internet Bullying Presentation

A sincere thanks to Mrs. Preece for organizing a very informative "Internet Bullying" evening with Constable Mel Wright.  For those parents who missed this presentation you may want to check the following websites for helpful information on Internet Bullying:

Our students were also lucky to receive a presentation by Constable Wright as well.

Talking to your child regarding Internet Bullying will assist in keeping them safe.

 Fundraising Results

Pizza Fundraiser
Thank you to the Lakeroad families who participated in the New Orleans Pizza fundraiser.  Lakeroad received a cheque in the amount of $56.76.

If you feel like pizza over the summer, you can present this coupon at the time of purchase at New Orleans Pizza.  They will then donate $3.00 back to Lakeroad School.  Thank you so much for your continued support of our fundraising efforts throughout the year.

Book Fair
Sincere thanks to all who attended our Buy One Get One / Summer Reads Book Fair this month.  Unlike our previous Book Fairs this year, this was a year end sale, therefore there was no direct profit to the School from this Fair.  However, Scholastic is giving the school a $125.00 gift certificate to use at our Fall Fair to purchase books for the school library and classrooms.  Scholastic will donate $616.42 in books (50% of our net sales from this fair) to children's hospitals across Canada through Children's Miracle Network as well as to select Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies.

Our next Book Fair, in the fall will be October 15th - 22nd, 2008.  Sincere thanks to "The Book Lady", Mrs. Wright for all of her time and dedication with our Book Fairs this year.  The staff and students really appreciate all of Mrs. Wright's commitment in bringing books to Lakeroad School.

 Dear New Parents;

On behalf of the Lakeroad Public School Parent Council, WELCOME!

By enrolling your child in Lakeroad Public School, you have become a part of a very proud family.  We are a school community like no other - we're proud, we're proactive and we're cohesive.

The Lakeroad School Parent Council is comprised of parents who wish to be involved in their child's or children's school so that they can help ensure the most positive learning environment possible for their family. We all play an important part in our children's education.

Our Council meets a minimum of 4 times throughout the school year, along with our Principal; a staff member representing the union; a teacher; and at least 2 student representatives, to discuss issues concerning our school community.  At times, we may communicate with the Lambton Kent District School Board to effect changes we feel necessary to improve the quality of learning in our school.  We often have guest speakers who visit to inform us on issues affecting our children - bullying, smoking & drug awareness, child safety and healthy habits to name a few.

We would like to take this opportunity to ask you to consider becoming involved on our Parent Council for this school year.

All of our parents on Council are volunteers, some of who may also volunteer in other areas of the school, for example: fundraising, milk programs, book fairs, band and sports.  As a Council member, you are not required to commit to volunteering in any other area, nor will you be pressured to participate in anything you don't wish to.  You are only required to come out to at least 3 meetings and offer input during our discussions.

Many of our Council members have been involved for several years, as their children progress through the grades, and we are all proud to be a part of making things happen at Lakeroad.

Everyone is welcome at Council meetings so please come out, listen, and see if being a Council member is right for you.

We're looking forward to meeting you!
